{Kim Family . 2010}

December 1, 2010

Since the start of Jane Lee Photography, Becky and Charles were one of my first clients, if not THE first. Our journey together began with their beautiful first daughter Ella’s 100 day celebration. And now a few years, a 2nd child, and handful of sessions later, we have the Kim Family 2010 session!

Details of love: One word – style. Coordintating outfits for not just the kids, but the entire family is awesome. This family did a great job in focusing on the color pallette rather than the patterns and I think it turned out wonderfully.

Making it work: Sometimes the challenge in working with kids is their attention span. And often times, more than their attention span, they have this crazy superpower ability to lock onto one item [eg. a toy] with a grip of death. In this case, Charlie Jr. LOVES Buzz Lightyear. The last thing you want to do is place too much attention and effort on taking the toy away from the child because what you usually end up with is a very upset child, frustrated parents, and a shortened session. So what do I do? I photograph Jr. WITH Buzz. And I leave Jr to play with Buzz while I photograph big sister Ella, mom and dad. Luckily, mom and dad already had certain protocols in place in order for us to grab a few snaps minus BFF Buzz. The lesson here is either to not bring a toy at all, or, bring one that you wouldn’t mind being in all of the pictures like the child you never had. If all else fails, do what Becky and Charles do and play the “hide the toy behind your back” game.

{a special shout out to Ella…happy 4th birthday sweetie!}

{Grisham Family . it’s the great pumpkin Charlie Brown!}

November 17, 2010

In the spirit of the Thanksgiving season, I wanted to share this uber adorable family and a session we did last fall at a pumpkin patch. Honestly, I myself had never been to a pumpkin patch before the session happened, and when it did I felt like a little girl who had been missing out! Good grief!

Mama Grisham was expecting a 2nd child at the time and I loved how the round pumpkins were reminiscent of her cute pregnant tummy! So if you have children or if you still have that inner child in you, please do not deprive them or your inner child of the memories; that would just be cruel. Or, you could just end up like me and vicariously live through Linus’ obsessive love for the Great Pumpkin! I watched that VHS video tape a million times as a child. I bet it’s still just as good.

And on a more sentimental note – I hope that we can all embrace this Thanksgiving season by truly putting forth a little more effort in giving to others in any shape or form that we can. I, for one, am incredibly thankful to all of you who {clients, family, friends, visitors} continually give your support and love to Jane Lee Photography.
